Depression: a Heavy Burden of Diabetes

There are concepts of burnout at work, manager’s syndrome and a bunch of other syndromes associated with the modern pace of life. BUT what if there is a second “job” in the form of diabetes. At least constant measurements of sugar level and counting XE for setting the dose of insulin are factors that unrealistically strain in life.

What to do if you become permanently tired of the need for self-control?

The biggest danger is fatigue from the constant need to control diabetes. Many doctors note that in such patients, they can begin to ignore all prescriptions or simply stop performing the necessary compensation actions.

If you feel that you are tired of these rat races of self-control, the main thing is not to despair. Yes, diabetes is very hard work. Nevertheless, life gives so many opportunities that the fight against the disease is worth putting off possible complications on a very distant shelf and enjoying what you get: friendship, interesting work, creativity, relationships with people close to you.

We also tried to collect some tips from psychologists that may be useful to you:

  • Do not demand the impossible from yourself. Practice shows that many people with diabetes are overly strict with themselves. Of course, discipline is an important aspect in effective control. But self-confidence for the fact that you did not reach the indicators you were striving for, due to factors beyond your control, is too much!
  • Divide the “elephant in the room” into portions, i.e. move to the goal step by step. No one immediately becomes an Olympic champion. It’s all about gradual training. Same with diabetes. The task of reducing glycated can be expressed in several smaller tasks: 3 workouts per week, more frequent glycemic control – instead of 3 times – 5, etc.
  • Get support. Your loved ones can help you better than any psychologist. Perhaps they will agree to switch to food identical with yours or start training with you. Do not ignore the achievements of the 21st century. Social networks make it possible to find “similar” people. Today, there are many communities where you can talk about diatoms and exchange experiences. Often in such communities, someone gives the idea to meet. There are spontaneous diabetes evenings and diabetes.

It is said that the main thing in diabetes is self-control. We know that believing in yourself is an even more important thing. Do not lose it. After all, your struggle is worthy of the title of hero, which means that there will be enough strength for everything!
