How Diabetes is Treated

Diabetes type 1 | Diabetes type 2

In this article, we will look at how diabetes is treated. Even though we will not be able to recover completely, but it is in our power to prevent the occurrence of complications. After all, every complication that “starts” in this disease can cause disability.

Treatment consists not only in lifestyle changes, but also in taking medications.

Diabetes type 1

Depending on the type of disease, drugs for diabetes mellitus are prescribed by a doctor on an individual basis.

We know that there are two main types of diabetes. We considered them in previous articles.

Insulin therapy is prescribed for type 1 diabetes.

It involves the subcutaneous administration of the hormone insulin. This happens because our body stops producing it altogether or produces it in insufficient quantities.

Tablets are prescribed for type 2 diabetes.

The doctor prescribes pills aimed at stimulating the function of the pancreas or at suppressing insulin resistance that has developed in the body.

Diabetes type 2

In modern medicine, there is a wide range of diabetes medications. I will not give a list of these medicines.

Because only a doctor has the right to prescribe medications. And also change it, if necessary, for more effective drugs.

The doctor individually prescribes this or that group of drugs. He considers the presence of concomitant diseases, excess weight, diet.

The main thing to remember is that it is forbidden to prescribe or change treatment yourself!

Tablets for maintaining sugar within the normal range, or glucose-lowering drugs, as they are sometimes called, are far from the only ones that diabetics need.

Many patients have high cholesterol levels, which leads to serious consequences.

Therefore, the doctor may prescribe medications that lower cholesterol levels.

When we start taking these drugs, different side effects may develop. These include muscle pain, abdominal pain, intestinal upset, allergic reaction, and even depression. So you need to ask your doctor about possible reactions. An experienced specialist will select the most suitable treatment for you.

Diabetes and hypertension go very well together.

But at the same time, it is not so easy to reduce pressure in diabetes. Many pressure pills may contain sucrose in their composition. And this already entails an increase in blood sugar.

You can also drink diuretics prescribed by your doctor to lower your blood pressure.

Treatment will be effective if we keep blood sugar within acceptable limits, thereby preventing disruption to the work of other organs.

And this is possible through the prevention of diabetes, creating a possibility for weight loss and for maintaining blood vessels.
